Beyonce is teasing us with new music, as audio for her forthcoming single “Girls (Who Run the World)” has leaked online. Sampling Major Lazer, the track’s upbeat energy seems like a call to arms for her fans.
Her six-month chart shows that listeners have been falling for tracks from I Am… Sasha Fierce, with only “Irreplaceable” representing former releases. Whilst ballad “Halo” takes the top spot by some way, the dance energy of “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” might be replicated by her new track.
As lead single from her as-yet-untitled fourth album, she’ll be hoping that “Girls…” gets fans excited for what’s to come. It’s a different strategy from releasing “If I Were A Boy” as lead single from I Am… Sasha Fierce, with its more downbeat mood.
That track’s Recent Listening Trend has evened out, but its popularity pales in comparison to numbers like the 4,084,726 scrobbles from 493,539 listeners for “Halo”. The contentious sample in “Girls…” could be a way to get the world talking before the real hits are unleashed.
