The newest sound to be heard on The Oasis this week comes from Smooth Jazz veteran [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jeff Lorber[/lastfm].

The track “Sumatra” comes from Lorber’s 20th original album Now Is The Time, which was released last year on Heads Up Records.

Jeff Lorber first began recording in 1977 with his own band [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Jeff Lorber Fusion[/lastfm], which included a young saxophonist named Kenny Gorelick, later to be known as [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kenny G[/lastfm].  Subsequent releases from Lorber have been mostly under his own name but this latest release is in fact credited as The Jeff Lorber Fusion.

“Sumatra” features Jeff Lorber’s funky piano style along with plenty of wah wah guitars and invigorating horns.

You can pick up your own copy of Lorber’s latest release Now Is The Time here.

Here’s the Jeff Lorber Fusion from 1985 doing a live rendition of Wizard Island featuring a very young [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dave Koz[/lastfm].
