For an avid book lover books are fun to buy and collect, but they can also take up a lot of space.

With new “smart” devices being  introduced all the time, it is no wonder that e-books are becoming more common in U.S. households.

Although the Amazon Kindle began as the front-runner in e-book sales, Barnes & Noble’s Nook is now becoming a worthy competitor. Price drops in these electronic devices that store your books (and allow you to turn the pages as if you were reading an actual book) in turn increased overall sales this past year.

May by the Pew Internet and American Life Project recently came out with a study that shows 12% of homes in the United States own some form of an e-book, and  8% own an electronic tablet. That is triple the number of e-books owned last year and double the number of tablets owned in U.S. households.

The study also found that (unsurprisingly) laptop sales are up and desktop sales are down.
