Most Patriotic Performances Of All Time

Whether with the backdrop of war, the memory of thousands, or just being in the right venue, a song performed under the right circumstances can really make one proud to be an American.

With that in mind and the Fourth of July just a few days away we thought we’d do our patriotic duty and look at some of the most patriotic performances of all time.

Let’s take a look at what we thought made the top 5 most patriotic performances of all time, and at the end tell us what you thought should have been number 1.

#5 – ‘Born in the U.S.A’ – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm]

It doesn’t really matter where or under what circumstances this song is played; it gets the red, white and blue flowing through our veins.

#4 – ‘America’ – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Aretha Franklin[/lastfm]

When one of the Diva’s walks out and sings for one of the most historic events in the country’s history, you better believe it’s going to make the list.

#3 – ‘The Saints are Coming’ – [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]U2[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Green Day[/lastfm]

It was the first football game in the Superdome in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina devastated the region and before the game kicked off U2 and Green Day took the stage and gave us this rousing performance to help bring some life back to Louisiana.

#2 – ‘Star Spangled Banner’ -[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Whitney Houston[/lastfm]

In 1991 the country was at war in Iraq for the first time tension was high in Tampa Bay as America prepared to watch the Super Bowl and Whitney kicked it off right.

#1 – ‘Where the Streets Have No Names” – U2

I know it seems weird to put an Irish band at the top of the list for most patriotic performances of all time but in early 2002 just a few months after 9/11 U2 presented this amazing rendition of their hit while the names of all those lost in the attacks on that day scrolled up huge sheets behind them.

Do you agree with our list?  What performance would you put on top?
