A Florida jury has acquitted Casey Anthony of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee. The jury also cleared her of child abuse and manslaughter charges after deliberating for about 11 hours.

Anthony was found guilty of four counts of lying to investigators, and Judge Belvin Perry will sentence her tomorrow. She could get up to a year on each count. Anthony could have faced the death penalty had she been convicted of the first-degree murder charge. After the verdict was read, she hugged attorney Jose Baez and later mouthed the words “thank you” to him. Prosecutor Jeff Ashton, meanwhile, shook his head in disbelief. Anthony’s parents left the courtroom without speaking to her as the judge thanked the jury.
“While we’re happy for Casey, there are no winners in this case,” Baez said at a news conference after the hearing. “Caylee has passed on far, far too soon and what my driving force has been for the last three years has been always to make sure that there has been justice for Caylee and Casey because Casey did not murder Caylee. It’s that simple.” Facebook posts from people enraged at the verdict came too fast for All Facebook to count, meaning at least 10 per second. Maybe it’s no wonder, then, that jurors issued an “unequivocal no” when asked whether they wanted to speak to the media.
