Sometimes we want to get away and feel like we’re on vacation but we don’t have the time or the energy to put into a full fledged week or even weekend away.  So we put together a list of 5 great day getaways that will get out out but also have you back before the day is done.

No flyaway, no 2 weeks spent in the car, just a short drive to someplace you and the family can enjoy this summer.  So fill up the car and get ready for a day out and about.

Cavanaugh Flight Museum

4572 Claire Chennault St

Addison, TX 75001

Located at the Addison Airport, this is a great place for anyone into World War II or Vietnam aerial fighters. Packed full with planes from those eras the Cavanugh Flight Museum is a great place to take a look at history. And if you want maybe even fly in history. You can book a ride in a number of their “warbirds”. The Red Bull p-38 is not one you can ride in however.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

2299 County Road 2008
Glen Rose, Texas, 76043

Get out of Texas without actually leaving your car. The Fossil rim Wildlife center allows you to get up close and personal with some real wild animals either with a guided tour or from your own vehicle.

Dallas World Aquarium

1801 N Griffin St
Dallas, TX 75202

No wetsuit needed when you head to the Dallas World Aquarium. You can visit different parts of the world underwater, near water, around water without ever leaving Dallas. Great for the fish lover, or just a cool way to stay out of the sun and still be near the water.

International Exotic Animal Sanctuary

Boyd, TX

Offering weekend tours to the cat lover, you’ll get more than just your average tabby here. With over 50 different types of large cats the sanctuary takes care not only the felines, but they house bears as well. If you want to feel a little wild, bring your walking shoes and head out.

Chandor Gardens

711 West Lee Ave.
Weatherford, TX 76086

Looking for a little relaxing get away head out west to the Chandor Gardens in Weatherford. Enjoy the 3.9 acre facility with waterfalls and winding path that will lead you through the gorgeous foliage. This one might have to wait until the temp drops below 100 but still a beautiful place to go.
