It Feels Like The Hottest Day Since The Dinos

This crazy heatwave is starting to really affect people. Gene thinks today’s high of 105ºF is the hottest day since dinosaurs roamed the earth. Here are some heat related weather facts.

Today’s forecasted high of 105ºF is definitely not the hottest day ever, and definitely not Dallas’s hottest temp. That oven-roasted record holder is 113ºF and had thermometers bursting on June 26 & 27th, 1980.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in Texas was way back in 1936. The temp reached 120ºF on August 12th of that year in Seymour, about 140 miles northwest of Fort Worth.

The United States’ hottest recorded temperature actually sits in the #2 spot as the highest recorded temperature ever recorded on earth, according to the National Climatic Data Center. On July 10th, 1913, the temperature at Greenland Ranch in Death Valley, CA reached 134ºF.

Hotter still, the world record for the hottest temperature ever recorded on the planet is 136ºF in El Azizia, Libya on September 13th, 1922. Shortly thereafter, all the thermometers in the area melted. That’s HOT!
