Amanda Knox Not Guilty: Free To Come Home

American student Amanda Knox, who was convicted of the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, was acquitted by an appeals court today in Perugia, Italy.

She was ordered to be immediately released from prison after the jury threw out her murder conviction of the 2007 death of Kercher. Knox had spent nearly four year in prison in Italy.

When the verdict was read, Knox broke down in tears and fell to the floor.

Her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito was also found not guilty.

Knox was found guilty of defamation of the police for statements she had made. she was sentenced to 3 years and fined 22,000 euros, but was released for time already served.

The original sentence for the murder of her roommate, Knox had received 26 years in prison. She claimed her innocence from the very beginning.

In a statement read outside the courtroom by one of Amanda’s sister the Knox family asked everyone “give Amanda the privacy she needs to recover from this ordeal.” They also thanked the court for their ruling.
