It’s one thing we all dread before the holidays, you know, besides the dreaded relatives. It’s the holiday bulge. We eat like we won’t eat for the rest of the year, only to make New Year’s resolutions to hit the gym January 1. British researchers recently released findings about a simple change that works better that your average diet.
According to Time’s Healthland, the study found that cutting carbs two days a week helped women lose more weight over the course of 4 months than those who stuck to a 1,500-calorie diet all week. It’s a miracle!
The trick was ditching carbohydrate-rich foods like bread, pasta, potatoes, and rice twice a week, and continuing to eat as normal the rest of the week. The women in the study who did this, on average, lost 9lbs in 4 months. On the converse, the women counting their calories on a Mediterranean diet only lost an average of 5lbs.
Not only did the women on the 2-day carb-free diet lose more weight, they also saw improvements in other areas of their health.
The goal of the study was to find a diet that worked and was easy to follow, but also decreased at-risk women’s chances of developing breast cancer.
