Larry North’s Advice For Getting Ready To Wear That Itty Bitty Bikini

Summer is fast approaching, and the stores have already started displaying bikinis and bathing suits in every color of the rainbow. If you’re looking for ways to slim down to svelte and get the bikini bod that you want, fitness guru Larry North has some great tips for you!

Don’t worry about your gym membership, Larry North says that slimming down is 99% nutrition and diet. Exercise is a good part of that, but what’s really going to trim the fat is retraining how you eat.

You don’t have to go on a crazy diet, rather learn how to eat lean. Fruits are good, but too much fruit will get you too much sugar in the form of fructose. Olive oil is lovely if you spray it, but avoid turning the whole bottle over into your cooking. Nuts and seeds are good as a garnish, but by the handful, they can be too much.

Larry North also suggests breaking you plate into thirds. Try to give yourself 1 cup of carbs (they really aren’t as evil as everyone thinks), some protein, and a cup of steamed veggies. Larry says a great example of is grilled chicken breast, a cup of rice, and a cup of steamed broccoli.

Plan your meals a day in advance, and plan to eat every 2 1/2 to 4 hours. Throw in a snack between breakfast and lunch and again between lunch and dinner. Carry food with you so that you always have something healthy to munch on rather than the diet destroyers lurking in the snack machines.

    I like the intent of the article/video because obesity is becoming something of an epidemic. However, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this program would be the most intelligent approach you could take towards the goal of long-term health and fitness.

    The statement “slimming down is 99% nutrition and diet” is incorrect. Nutrition and diet are important, but if some type of resistance exercise isn’t incorporated, then you run the risk of having half of your weight loss be muscle loss. This is especially common when diets are excessively calorie restrictive (like 500 calories a day).

    The reason muscle loss is a gargantuan issue is because each pound of muscle mass increases your basal metabolism (calories you burn a day without activity) by 35 to 50 calories. So, if we use the example of the guy in the video who lost half a stone (7lbs), if out of those 7lbs, 3.5 of them are muscle mass (which is entirely possible if the only exercise he’s doing is a 30 second isometric ab/hip flexor exercise and dancing), then he may have unwittingly decreased his metabolism by 175 (3.5 x 50) calories a day. If he continues this trend, he’ll be wasting away his metabolism until he finally gets to a point where he can’t perform activities of daily living and has the metabolism of a pre-pubescent girl. With that slow of a metabolism, his long-term weight management efforts will be tremendously difficult.

    With that said, dividing the plate into thirds does work well, and I like the fact that Larry doesn’t promote low-carbohydrate dieting. His nutrition advice is solid. My main point of contention is the lack of attention to preserving/building muscle mass.
