Ashton Kutcher’s Fake Dating Site Video Is Raising A Few Eyebrows

Ashton Kutcher appeared in an internet ad for potato chip company Popchips designed to look like a fake dating website advertisement. That video is now sparking some trouble for Ashton.

In the video, Ashton portrays several characters from around the world looking for a relationship on the fake dating service called “World Wide” The character drawing the most ire is Ashton’s portrayal of an Indian man, for which he wore dark makeup. Those not laughing at the video are calling it offensive.

Popchips defends the video, saying that the ad was ”created to provoke a few laughs and was never intended to stereotype or offend anyone. At popchips we embrace all types of shapes, flavors and colors, and appreciate all snackers, no matter their race or ethnicity.  We hope people can enjoy this in the spirit it was intended.”

While the choice of character may have been poorly made, is it offensive or are people overreacting to a lighthearted video?
