Sixteen year old Gabby Douglas is all smiles. The Olympic gymnast nicknamed “The Flying Squirrel” has flown in the history books as the first African-American woman to win all-around gold for gymnastics at the Olympics. She is also the third consecutive American gymnast to take the all-around title at the Olympics. She’s in good company with Carly Patterson (2004) and Nastia Liukin (2008).

Even though this is her first trip to the Olympics, she already had one gold to her name before yesterday’s history-making victory. She was apart of the “Fab Five” that won the team gold medal two days ago along with her teammates McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber.

Gabby’s historic win is being celebrated by a host of celebs. Oprah cheered her on and congratulated her over Twitter saying, “OMG I’m so THRILLED for Gabby. Flowing happy tears!! #TeamUSA”. Beyonce gave Gabby a congratulatory shout-out on her blog.

Gabby herself is riding pretty high for a 4’11” teen. “WOW such an AMAZING experience! Thank you all for your support, love and prayers love you all!!! #oncloud9,” she tweeted yesterday.

She’s still got a couple of chances to add more gold medals to her collection, and it’s certain all eyes will be on “The Flying Squirrel.”
