Russell Crowe usually plays the hero saving the day in big blockbuster action films, but in a twist of irony, it was Russell who needed rescuing over the weekend.
The 48-year old star of Gladiator went kayaking off the coast of Long Island in New York when he and a friend ran out of daylight and had to beach their kayaks on a beach 10 miles from their starting point. They stayed put until Russell called out to a passing US Coast Guard who gave the pair a lift back to safety.
Crowe posed for a picture with his rescuers and gave thanks via Twitter, saying, “Kayak;Cold Spring/Huntington Harbour, thanks to Seth and the boys from the US Coast Guard for guiding the way…4 hrs 30 mins, 7m(11.2km).”
He also added, “not lost, we knew where exactly where we were, paddling around from csh into wind, we ran out of day. Grand adventure eh @chris_feather?”
Russell is currently on location in Long Island filming Noah. He’s playing the famous biblical character who knows a thing or two about boats.
