Lance Armstrong has announced that he is resigning as chairman of his cancer-fighting charity Livestrong. He wants to the group to focus on its mission rather than have to fighting Armstrong’s bad press.

This announcement comes just a week after the US Anti-Doping Agency released a huge report accusing Armstrong and his teams of widespread doping during his seven consecutive Tour de France wins between 1999 and 2005. The report details the reasons why the USADA moved to ban Lance Armstrong from cycling ever again as well as erasing 14 years of his career from the record, including the Tour de France titles he’s won.

All the bad publicity from Lance Armstrong’s struggles with the USADA he fears will do more harm than good to the Livestrong charity. Armstrong famously beat a battle with testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain, and his inspiring story and Tour de France triumph helped propel Livestrong from a small charity in Texas to one of the most popular non-profits in the nation.
