Let’s face it, some of us don’t have the money to buy the latest and greatest things for Christmas, but we still want to give gifts to our family, friends, and loved ones. With Christmas comes parties and gift exchanges, and some of those gift exchanges will be White Elephants with a budget limit. We all know how amazingly difficult it is to find a gift that someone would actually like for less than $20, and you don’t want to run the risk of hurting feelings by re-gifting that ChiaPet from last year. Here are some creative DIY ideas (with instructions) for gifts that are great for everyone!

Custom Coffee Mugs Decorated With Sharpie Doodles

There is a “World’s Greatest ____” for just about every one, but those aren’t really all that original. Sharpie ink actually becomes permanent with heat. Doodle a clever design on a blank coffee mug with a Sharpie, pop it in the oven, and those doodles now become dishwasher safe.

Rice Hand Warmers

There’s nothing worse that cold hands in cold weather. Uncooked rice makes a great reusable heat source. Cut two pieces of fleece or felt into a fun shape, sew them together enough that you can pour uncooked rice inside, and then sew it closed. The hand warmers can be microwaved over for a minute to get them nice and toasty.

Cinnamon Roasted Nuts

Food gifts are always welcome, and who doesn’t love cinnamon roasted nuts. You can bundle and package them in a crafty way. Christmasy cookie tins, mason jars, or special plastic baggies can be decorated for gifting yummy roasted almonds, cashews, or peanuts.

Mason Jar Terrarium

Less kooky than a ChiaPet, but still a cheerful little plant gift. Make it as big or little as you want, and fill it with whatever small plants tickle your fancy. You can grow mosses, cacti, or herbs. These are great gifts that can sit in a kitchen, dorm, or office.

Laced Cement Votive Holders

Where’s the fun in being crafty if you don’t get to make a mess? Make some quaint little candle holders with lace designs on the side. You can make them with cement powder, or you could take it up a step on the creativity ladder and use plaster and paint for fun colorful votives.

All Natural Lip Balm

Nice soft lips are great to have when smooching under the mistletoe. Cook up some special natural lip balm to give as gifts. You can tweak the ingredients for favorite flavors. These little gifts also make fabulous stocking stuffers!

You could literally kill a day just surfing Pinterest and various craft blogs for DIY gift ideas. Have a Merry Crafty Christmas!
