We have enjoyed a white Christmas, but some folks are heading back to the airport or work today. The temperature today isn’t expected to get over 34 degrees today, so the potential for hazardous road cautions is very high.
Michael Peters of TxDOT says the highways are dry, but drivers should take caution because there is still a danger of black ice on bridges and overpasses. Black ice is a real danger here in Texas, because many drivers are unfamiliar with winter road conditions and how to drive in them. Look for anything that looks like a puddle or wet spot on the roads; that is black ice.
Area businesses and schools aren’t taking any chances today. A few businesses and school have announced closings and delays in light of the inclement weather. CBSDFW.com has a list of the businesses and schools posting closings and delays, and they will keep that updated throughout the day.
If you do have to get out and about today, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to leave and drive carefully. If you have to fly out today, check your flights as 400 flights at DFW have been cancelled.
