NBC has made it official. Seth Meyers will follow in the footsteps of Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s Late Night.

The current head writer for Saturday Night Live and anchor on the show’s “Weekend Update” will leave SNL and host Late Night when Jimmy leaves to take over the Tonight Show.

“We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His years at SNL’s ‘Weekend Update’ desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt told People.

Meyers will stay working for the same boss, as SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels will be executive producer on Late Night as well.

Seth made sure his new/old/same boss knew he was grateful, “I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car,” Meyers said. “12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice.”

No word yet on if Late Night will move to LA as the Tonight Show is moving to New York.
