Tony’s 3-year-old niece Ava is having a birthday party this weekend. She loves Minnie Mouse. Her party is Minnie Mouse themed, but Ava is telling everyone that Minnie Mouse is coming to her party. Tony’s sister has told Ava that Minnie isn’t really coming, but Ava won’t believe her. Super-uncle Tony wants to fix this and make sure that Ava’s dream comes trues, so he’s now scrambling to find someone with a Minnie Mouse costume.
Julie warns that costume characters walk a fine line between convincing and terrifying. If just one thing is off, little kids will be scared. Julie says it’s really okay to just tell kids no.
Case in point, Julie’s 6-year-old is asking for a hamster for her birthday. Not only that, but also a tiny hoodie to dress the hamster in (no accompanying Kia Soul). A hamster is okay, but there will not be a hamster-sized hoodie.
