Two weathermen in Arkansas got into an Anchorman-esque throw down over whether or not it would rain. Insults were bandied about and a challenge was issued.
RockCityTimes.com reports that the rain dispute between Little Rock weathermen Jeff Baskin of Fox 16 and Keith Monahan of KARK began when Monahan walked into the weather center to ask Baskin what his forecast for the weekend was. They disagreed on whether or not it would rain, remarks were exchanged and Monahan left.
It escalated quickly during Baskin’s weather report when he said, “Saturday should be an absolutely beautiful day for those of you participating in the Big Dam Bridge 100 bike race. Unlike what other community college educated meteorologist will tell you, the rain should hold off until midday Sunday where we will have a 40% chance at showers and isolated thunderstorms.”
Monahan responded during his forecast with, “Pay no attention to what some cajun who has married all 5 of his cousins at some point says, pack your ponchos this Saturday because we are going to see a 50% chance of rain starting in the afternoon Saturday and ending well before Sunday.”
After his broadcast, Monahan found a challenge on his desk, left by Baskin. It asked him to meet outside by the fire flag pole.
What happened next could be imagined to have been something like the epic battle between news station teams like in the movie Anchorman, but perhaps without the trident. Baskin and Monahan began fighting and were soon joined by their broadcast teams. Police were called to the scene.
The pair were charged with inciting a riot and were held in the county jail for 24 hours. Nexstar, the parent company of both stations, requested the weathermen be placed in adjacent cells so that cameras could record their forecasts live from the jail.
