When watching scary movies, nothing could be more frightening that the thought that any of it could be real. Huff Post recently shared a list of 13 movies that are based on true stories.

The Exorcist. Based on the real exorcism of a young boy in 1949. It wasn’t nearly as dramatic as the movie, but the boy went on to live a normal life.

The Haunting In Connecticut. Based on the true claims made by a family in the 1980s after they moved into a house that was a former mortuary in Southington, Conn.

Primeval. This tale of a man-eating 25-foot croc was inspired by a 20-foot, 2,000-pound Nile crocodile believed to be responsible for taking the lives of hundreds of villagers in Burundi.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It didn’t really happen in Texas, but it was inspired by the true case of Wisconsin serial killer Edward Gein in the 1950s. It’s believed that he’s also the inspiration behind the movies Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs.
