#KoryatDisney: Why Walt Disney World Is My Hometown

I grew up in and around Orlando, FL. But really, I feel like I grew up at Walt Disney World. My family had annual passes and would often head to the parks on the weekends. When I came of age, one of my first jobs was at Walt Disney World in the food and beverage department at the now defunct Pleasure Island.

Check out this article I wrote for Orlando Attractions Magazine back in 2010.

During a 2008-2010 downturn in the economy (and my radio career,) I again found myself working at the vacation capital of the world, managing the (now closed) ‘Balzac Balloon Ball’ carts at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Magic Kingdom, and Epcot. I left the company in January of 2010 and soon re-launched my radio career with a move to CBS Radio Cleveland. 4 years later, I am in Dallas and preparing to take my 103.7 KVIL afternoon show live from what I consider my true hometown, Walt Disney World.

As long as I can remember, I have always felt that sensation of belonging when I step through the gates to the Walt Disney World theme parks. I spent so much of my teen years wandering the parks on my own, celebrating moments with friends and family, and discovering who I am at that magical place. Cinderella Castle at Disney’s Magic Kingdom always fills me with excitement, Spaceship Earth at Epcot always makes me feel like a kid again, the Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios brings back great memories, and when I approach the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom I feel like I have escaped to a whole other place that is out of this world.

Why am I going to Walt Disney World?

To celebrate the grand opening of their newest attraction, Seven Dwarfs Mine Ride. It’s located in The New Fantasyland and looks to be a pretty stellar attraction. It will be a very nostalgic trip for me, and I am honored that Walt Disney World has asked me to do this special broadcast.

Here is my agenda for my trip:

Wednesday, April 30th – Fly to Walt Disney World, check into my room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, then spend the afternoon/evening in the parks. You KNOW I’ll be tweeting!

Thursday, May 1st – Touring Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. I’ll definitely be tweeting about some of the cool amenities!

Then at night, the media will have a private dinner/party in The New Fantasyland where we will get to hang with Disney characters, and we’ll have an opportunity to ride the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Ride!! I will be BLOWING UP Twitter!

Friday, May 2nd – I’ll be broadcasting my show live from Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park! I hope you’ll tune in, I cannot wait to share all I have experienced with you!

I’ll spend the weekend at Walt Disney World and will fly back on Monday. Sybil Summers will be holding it down on the 30th, 1st, and 5th on 103.7 KVIL.

I cannot wait to share all I discover with you! Follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for the full rundown on my crazy trip to Walt Disney World, my hometown! To win your own Disney vacation, enter here!
