Pet Of The Week: Beautiful Black Lab Brady

My DFW lab rescue name is Brady, but you can call me Remington. I’ve been having a great time at my foster parents’ house for several months while I got treated for heart worms and put on some weight, but I’m back to 100% now and it’s time for me to look for a place to call my own.

I’m a big, black, and beautiful 7 year old, 80 pound boy. I won’t mention how handsome I am – I hear it all the time and you’ll notice it anyway. I’m happy-go-lucky, and I don’t get too worked up about anything. One of the reasons why is that I’m mostly blind and can only see shapes and things, but don’t let that fool you: I ALWAYS check to make sure I know where my family is! I get around fine just like any other dog, but I do take wrong turns here and there sometimes. I LOVE going out for walks and spending time with my foster sister lab and humans. I’m definitely not a shut-in! If there’s action around the house, I’m there front and center looking for attention and to be part of it. The vet said that over time I’ll lose the rest of my sight, but I’ll still be the same lovable guy no matter what. Since I’ve been losing my vision gradually, I’ve learned to adapt and am quite comfortable and happy.

Everybody has dreams, and if I had a wish list for my ideal home this is what it would be like:

  • Lots of petting and contact with my humans.
  • A house without young kids (I really like them, but since I can’t see I’d trip over all the toys and things they leave out, plus I wouldn’t be much good at hide and seek).
  • I would love to have a brother or sister about my age since it would be nice company while my humans are away from the house. I’m pretty sure I can manage on my own though.
  • No cats. I haven’t seen one in years, and I just can’t remember if I like them anymore.
  • A single story house. I can negotiate short steps here and there without a problem, but if there are long and short ones I get confused. It’s hard to remember which is the two step drop or the ten step one. It hurts when I guess wrong, and I’m a sweet lab, not an engineer.
  • I would prefer to have the run of the house. I’m older and don’t chew things (I prefer to curl up on my bed and dream about my human family and the stuff I used to see), and with my limited vision it’s not like I’m gonna turn the living room into Daytona Speedway.
  • I bump into things, especially at night. Don’t be alarmed: as I adjust to my new space that will happen less often. But if you regard your home as a fragile work of art, we might not be the best fit unless you can work with me a little – at 80 pounds with a hard head I’m no Picasso!
  • Did I mention LOTS of petting and contact with my humans?

If you want a special boy who gives as much love as he gets, then I’m your man. Come see me and hang onto your heart, because I’m really good at stealing them!

Brady’s adoption fee is $275 which includes up to date vaccinations, neuter, and micro chip. He has seen an eye specialist to help us diagnose his vision as well. To apply online and learn more about our adoption process go to
