Neon Trees’ Tyler Glenn On Touring: “It’s Not A Gay Tour… It’s Just A Great Entertainment Music Show”

This morning, we got to chat with Tyler Glenn, the lead singer of the band Neon Trees.

Glenn grew up in a Mormon based family, and struggled with the acceptance of coming out. He discussed with us when he knew in his heart that he was gay, “I dramatically say I was 3,” said Glenn, “but I probably was like 6, Like I knew when I was a young kid.”

Glenn was raised in a San Diego suburb, and moved to Provo, Utah when he was 21. It was all history from there, as Glenn and his band mates started playing shows at local establishments, all the while, Glenn still hadn’t come out as gay.

“I think I lost a large amount of years especially in my 20’s, like enjoying them fully, because I had to live this double life. I’m 30 now, and like the minute I heard people loved me still and that it was okay, it rocked my world and tipped my mind around so much that now I want anyone going through what I’m going through or what I went through, or how I feel, to come out, you know because it’s completely fine, okay and great to be your whole being.”

If you want catch the band in Dallas, when they stop here in June, you can expect to have a great time no matter what religion or sexual orientation you are. “It’s not typecast as a gay band, or a gay show or a gay tour, because it’s just as much not a gay tour as it is a Mormon tour, it’s not a pop tour, it’s just a great entertainment music show.”
